Contest #5: Music and Metal by Mike Shade

From Torquere Press

What happens when the man you left suddenly becomes the man you need?

Richard and Dave have a past together, but back then they couldn’t give each other what they needed. When they meet again, it’s both awkward and wonderful. Richard is far more confident now, and he knows he can be the sort of lover Dave requires.

Dave has some secrets that might blow up in their faces, though, and a serious case of self-doubt. Can he and Richard make a future for each other and fight the demons in their past?

Awkward and wonderful indeed. Richard and Dave were beautiful together.

Warning: This one has BDSM elements.

What are your favorite “reunited lovers” stories?

Contest #4: Regularly Scheduled Life by K.A. Mitchell

From Samhain Publishing

It’s a long way back to happily ever after.

Sean and Kyle have enjoyed six perfect years of what their friends called a “disgustingly happy” relationship. But what happens one sunny Tuesday morning in October might be more than even the most loving couple can survive.

When the bell rings that morning in chemistry teacher Sean Farnham’s first-period class, a terrifying sound fills the halls—gunshots. Without considering the consequences, Sean runs to tackle the shooter, sustaining a bullet wound to his leg. Despite his actions, he is unable to save the lives of the principal and two students.

Architect Kyle DeRusso hears about the shooting on the radio, and in the flash of an instant finds his life irrevocably altered. Everything—especially his heart—hangs suspended in a nightmare until he finds out Sean is alive. It doesn’t matter that Sean will be left with a permanent limp. Kyle’s just relieved the worst is over.

Or is it? Putting that day behind them isn’t as simple as it sounds. As Sean struggles to make something positive out of the tragedy, Kyle fights to save their relationship from the dangers of publicity—and Sean’s unwillingness to face how the crisis has changed him.

Warning: This book contains adults doing adult things, like using adult language and having hot m/m sex in various positions and on various furnishings. It might also cause the more tender-hearted adult to reach for a tissue or two.

Boy did I reach for the tissues! This is an oldie (at least in ebook years. lol) but it will always be one of my favorite stories of all time. If I remember correctly, Jambrea wasn’t too happy with me for recommending this one. lol

Most of the stories I’ve read are about how a couple (or more) got together. This is one of the first books (that wasn’t a sequel) that showed me what happens after “happily ever after.”  I cried and hurt and raged and absolutely loved it all the way through.

What are some your favorite “already a couple” stories?

Contest #3: Shades of Gray by Brooke McKinley

From Dreamspinner Press

Miller Sutton, a by-the-book FBI agent, is starting to see some troubling shades of gray in his black-and-white world. He comes face-to-face with his doubts in the person of Danny Butler, a mid-level drug runner Miller hopes to use to catch a much larger fish: Roberto Hinestroza, a drug lord Miller has pursued for years.

Danny has no interest in being a witness against his boss, both out of a sense of twisted loyalty and because he knows double-crossing Hinestroza is a sure death sentence. But he reluctantly agrees to cooperate, and as he suspects, it doesn’t take long for Hinestroza to figure out the betrayal.

Miller is surprised to discover Danny’s not the career-criminal lowlife he expected; at the same time, Danny finds himself helplessly attracted to Miller’s innate goodness. They barely begin to explore the sparking attraction between them when Hinestroza’s hitman tracks them down, and then they’re on the run, both for their lives and for any kind of love.

When I first read this story, I couldn’t stop talking about it. And apparently, I still can’t. lol It’s soooooo good! It’s Ms. Kinley’s only story so far but my life depends on her putting out another one. Seriously. Must have more Brooke McKinley!

I’ve been told I’m hard on books. It’s true. The positive side of that is when I fall in love with a book, buying the author’s backlist and future works is pretty much a done deal.

Tell me two of your “must buy” authors.

Contest #2: Winner!

Contest #2: Bareback by Chris Owen

From Torquere Press

Jake Taggart’s life was almost perfect–he’d worked hard to overcome his past, and he loved his job as foreman on a ranch in Arkansas. The only thorn in his side was a dark eyed cowboy named Tornado whose stubborn attitude brought frustration and confusion to Jake’s mostly happy existence.

A late spring rainstorm brings out hidden passions and unleashes a chain of events neither of them expected–and eventually brings about events that threaten to destroy them and what they worked to create. Strong wills and forceful personalities make for intense encounters….but is it enough to keep love alive?

Ooh, such yummy cowboys. I couldn’t get enough and luckily, I didn’t have to, because Jake and Tor return in Natural Disaster.

What’s your favorite cowboy story or series?

Contest #1: Special Delivery by Heidi Cullinan

From Dreamspinner Press

Sam Keller knows he’ll never find the excitement he craves in Middleton, Iowa—not while he’s busting his ass in nursing school and paying rent by slaving away in a pharmacy stockroom. But before his mother died, he promised her he’d grow up to be a good man, so he needs a stable career and a good husband, not a dead-end job and empty sex.

Then Sam meets Mitch Tedsoe, an independent trucker who makes a delivery to a shop across the alley. Innocent flirting quickly leads to an affair, and when Mitch offers to take Sam on a road trip west, Sam jumps at the chance for adventure with his fantasy man… but Mitch also comes with a past. A threesome with the other man in Mitch’s life would have been just another kinky ride, but somewhere between the Mississippi River and the Colorado Rockies, Sam falls in love.

But can a relationship born out of escape and indulgence become something that lasts? Will a fantasy man be willing to settle down into reality, or is the adventure and excitement Sam finds with Mitch just another stop on a delivery man’s journey? For better or for worse, eventually Sam is going to discover the answer, because no matter how far away he travels, eventually all roads lead home.

I read this one last week and as soon as I was done, I called my friend Jambrea and said, “Buy it. Now.” You’re probably thinking, what’s the big deal about making a phone call? I live in Europe, Jambrea lives in the U.S. There could have been a timezone issue…hehe. Nuff said.

So what book have you read recently that you just had to tell somebody about it? Note, it doesn’t have to be m/m. :)
